The activities of the European Institute of Romania are coordinated by the Administrative Board.
The Institute is managed by the Director General, assisted by the Consultative Scientific Board.
 
Administrative Board
 

The administrative board comprises nine members, appointed according to the provisions of art. 8 of the Government Ordinance 15/1998 as subsequently amended.
The chairman of the administrative board and four of the members are appointed by the Prime Minister, following the recommendation of the State Secretary in charge with the coordination of the Department for European Affairs. The Romanian Academy, the Parliament, through its Committee of European Affairs, employers' associations and national trade-union organizations each appoint one member of the Administrative Board.
The assignments of the administrative board are the following:
- approving the EIR’s strategy and policies,
- appointing and recalling the Director General of the European Institute of Romania
- discussing upon the annual program, which is submitted for approval to the Department of European Affairs, at the initiative of the Director General;
- discussing upon the annual report of the EIR, at the initiative of the Director General and then submitting for approval to the Department for European Affairs;
- discussing upon the annual budget proposal, then submitted for approval to the Department of European Affairs, at the initiative of the Director General, and also the last year’s implementation of the budget;
- approving the Director General’s report regarding its budgetary discharge for the envisaged period;
- approving EIR’s structure, statute and internal regulations;
- approving the cooperation with national and international organizations, as well as the affiliation to various international organizations.
Currently, the Administrative Board has the following members:

- Member of the Academy Răzvan Theodorescu,
- Member of the Academy Florin Filip, representing the Romanian Academy,
- Costel Olteanu, representing the employers' organizations,
- Gheorghe Simion, representing trade-union associations,
- Dan Darabont, representing the Committee on European Affairs, Romanian Parliament.

 
The Consultative Scientific Board
 

EIR' s Consultative Scientific Board comprises up to nine members, appointed by the Director General for a four years' mandate. The members of the Consultative Scientific Board are prominent actors of Romanian public life, with outstanding professional backgrounds.
Besides the active involvement in drafting the medium and long-term strategy and EIR’s annual programs, the Consultative Scientific Board also plays the role of a debate platform on European integration issues. The members of the Consultative Scientific Board take part in quarterly board meetings and their activity regards the assessment of research/information papers drafted by EIR and their participation as moderators or lecturers in the seminars and conferences organized by the Institute.
